Lying secretly at the foot of Hai Van Pass (to the north of Da Nang city), Van village once catered to an abundance of patients with leprosy. Over the years, these ones have been cured completely but their descendants, still keep their prejudices, have left the village for another places. Until more than 5 years ago, the government decided to move all the villagers to the city and offer them better living conditions. Since then, Van village was abandoned totally.
How to reach Làng Vân (Van village)
Nowadays, Van village has become one of the most favorite destination to mane travelers throughout the country and worldwide, especially those one love adventures and exploring distinct places. To get to Van village, from Da Nang, you head towards Hai Van pass. Driving about 10 minutes and you’ll see a small general store on the side. This spot offers fee-paying parking lot and sells some necessary stuffs (I prefer you to prepare all in advance for saving more money). Near the store, there’s a small path leading to the lower area of Hai Van Pass. It takes about 1 -1,5 hours to reach the end where Van village’s sleeping.

On the way down to the beach, you should try to discover the old train tunnel which will definitely give you best provoking feelings while walking through it. But be alert because the train can appear if you don’t notice enough. From this point, proceeding to the lower areas and surpassing some rugged stones, interlacing trees and bushes, the beach’s right here in front of you.

Thanks to its being undeveloped, this beach still keeps its pristine beauty and somehow serene atmosphere. The shore stretches very long, looking like a huge bow embracing Nam Chon bay’s water. Once coming here, all the fatigues just disappear without traces.
Wandering around Van village
Visiting this village is harder than we thought but after all, we could make it. The village had only a few people here, some of them come from other places and make their living by fishing and cow raising. The living conditions here were very bad and lack a lot of necessary things. Houses were all built by makeshift.

After visiting Van village, we went back to where we first set foot to set up camp. We chose an area next to the sea and surrounded by a pond split into two. The scenery around our camp was really gorgeous and romantic. In the afternoon, we walked along the shore to discover the end of this beach. In the evening, we gathered some wood pieces to grill prepared seafood and have fun together.

One thing that still lingers on our memory is that, that night, when we just finished our dinner, suddenly a strong wind from upon the mountain blew away all our stuffs, including tents, tarpaulins, pots… and we luckily managed to take all back and pack it up and find some places to hide. All we can hear was the sound of shouting, laughing, talking blended with screeching sounds of winds and then rain. We had to run and carry all our stuffs to the only firm house of the village. Not only us but many other travelers encountered the same trouble. Now, when flashing back, it’s really funny though and memorable.

P/s: It’s been a long time from our visit so there’s a lot of missing photos due to some reasons. If I find them out, I will update later.
